French Walnuts.

I completely forgot about wet walnuts last year. The French do some things well. Wet-ones have just come back to the Green Grocers this week, so I am eating for two years. As a small child, I remember seeing racks of walnuts at a farm in Hampshire. The same day, my brother fell into an ice covered pond and I rescued him. I was concerned because he had a small toy of mine in his pocket. Strange how memories interact!

Pumpkin Again.

We have only just finished the pumpkin pie, pumpkin cake and pumpkin stew, that have been lurking in the freezer.

Now those wretched pumpkins are back in the shops. Apparently, we have to have one to carve for Halloween and we have to use the carved out innards so as to avoid waste. "Sigh".

Fame is a Worry.

When I was young, well in my 20's, I was concerned that if I ever got to be famous, I might have to go on "Desert Island Disks". My dreadful taste in music would have been derided. Luckily, there was no reason for me to be invited on the program.

Few Birds Left. (Actually most did.)

The Sparrow Hawks have been using the garden as their local Butchers lately. They have feasted upon a rich diet of Blackbirds, Collard Doves, Green Finches and even Sparrows. The remaining garden birds either left or hid for days. Now a couple of Robins are visible again, as they stake out territories for the winter.
