I met my postman at 9am in town this morning. He had just started his round.
We won't meet again until he delivers my mail at about 12:45.
In the days before they "improved" the postal service, we used to receive all our mail before 7am.
So much for progress.

It's not only in UK that this happens. In the USA, Business District mail is sometimes delivered at 4 PM; 35 years ago when I started as a lawyer, it was there, faithfully, by 10:00 AM.
Of course, this comment is about as timely to the original post as mail delivery on both sides of the pond these days.
sigh.
